Junior Achievement (JA) is an international organization
sponsored by corporate and individual contributors. In
KISD, Junior Achievement reaches over 29,000 students during
the academic year.
Volunteers are critical to
the success of Junior Achievement programs.
What is Junior Achievement?
In 1919, Junior Achievement began as a collection of small
after-school business clubs whose goals were workforce
preparation and entrepreneurship. These Springfield,
Massachusetts clubs have grown to international statue and
include Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas. The
purpose of this organization has been to educate and inspire
students to value free enterprise. Materials presented
assist in understanding business and economics.
Classroom programs include The International
Marketplace™ (9G) and JA Economics™ (12G).
The International Marketplace™ helps
students appreciate how they are connected, through trade, to
people and cultures throughout the world. The activities
reinforce economic concepts taught in world history and
geography courses. The program begins with a focus on the
resources of selected countries and how they impact cultures,
governments, and economic systems. The focus then turns to the
benefits of international trade and important international
economic issues.
JA Economics™ helps students examine the
structure and values of the U.S. economic system, explore
business operations, study the emerging global economy, and
acquire knowledge and skills necessary to function as
competent citizens.
